Monterey Gold Honey has been awarded two blue ribbons for best honey in California at the Orange County Fair’s first-ever honey competition.
With intense competition in its inaugural year, the honey contest at the OC Fair sampled honey from around the state in search of the best that California has to offer. Monterey Gold Honey was crowned champion in 2 categories: traditional, liquid honey and the lesser-known “creamed honey” – a smooth, spreadable form of honey that is widely popular in Europe.
“We’re really proud to have been part of the first ever honey contest at the Orange County Fair and honored that they chose us twice as California’s best honey,” said Paul Del Piero, beekeeper and half of the husband/wife team who produces and sells the award-winning honey.
In a blind taste test, competition judges cited the honey’s distinctively “smooth flavor” and “buttery finish” as what tipped the scales for Monterey Gold, scoring a 99 out of 100 possible points.
The two blue ribbons are just the latest in a string of wins for Monterey Gold Honey. As a then-unknown artisanal producer in its first honey contest in 2013, Monterey Gold has gone on to win nearly every major honey competition in California, from Santa Clara to Costa Mesa, and claims the title of California’s most award-winning honey.
